About TapeMeasureCalc

TapeMeasureCalc is a collection of free calculators for estimating materials and measurements on home improvement, construction and landscaping projects.

What the site offers

The site currently has 15 calculators covering concrete, gravel, mulch, soil, pavers, tile, grout, drywall, paint, fencing and general area and volume measurements, along with guides that explain the methods behind them. Every calculator accepts US customary and metric units, so it can be used by homeowners, DIYers and trades in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia and elsewhere.

How the calculators work

  • Transparent formulas. Each calculator page states the formula it uses and the assumptions behind it, with a worked example you can check by hand.
  • Exact unit conversions. Conversions use exact definitions (for example 1 inch = 25.4 mm and 1 US gallon = 3.785411784 litres), and US short tons are kept separate from metric tonnes.
  • Editable assumptions. Where results depend on a product (paint coverage, bag yield, gravel density), you can enter the figure from the product you are buying. Default values are labelled as estimates.
  • Tested calculations. The calculation code is covered by automated tests, including metric and imperial inputs, decimals, rounding and invalid values.
  • Private by design. Calculations run in your browser. The measurements you enter are not sent to our server.

What the calculators are not

The results are estimates to help with planning and ordering. They are not engineering, structural or code-compliance advice. Real quantities depend on site conditions, products and workmanship. For structural or safety-critical work, consult a qualified professional and follow local building requirements. See the disclaimer for details.
